Education Savings Account

Florida

Personalized Education Program (PEP) Scholarship — part of the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTC-PEP)

How it works

PEP is an education savings account for students who are not enrolled full time in a public or private school — Florida’s homeschool-facing option. It now sits under the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship and is administered by Step Up For Students, not by a district.

Who qualifies

Florida residents in grades K-12 not enrolled full time in a public or private school. There is no income limit. The student must be at least 5 by 1 September and under 21. Some military families relocating to or from Florida also qualify.

How to apply

  1. Confirm your child is eligible for this year — see "Who qualifies" above.
  2. Check this year's window. The 2026-27 window is closed — the deadline for new and renewing students was 30 April 2026. Step Up For Students has not yet published the 2027-28 dates; sign up on its PEP page to be told when applications open. Dates move every year, so confirm on the official page before you plan around them.
  3. Create a parent account on the official portal and start the application.
  4. Have your documents ready. Most programmes want proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, and an IEP or eligibility determination if the programme is disability-based.
  5. Once you're approved, spend it. Instructional materials and home education instructional programmes are listed eligible expenses. Check the PEP Family Handbook for the documentation each purchase needs.

Official programme page: stepupforstudents.org/scholarships/personalized-education-program. Amounts, deadlines and eligibility are set by the state and change every year — always confirm there before you plan around them.

The card game, the Monthly Adventure Boxes, the textbooks and the digital game are history curriculum and instructional materials — the kind of purchase this programme lists as an allowed expense. Whether a particular item is approved is the programme’s decision, so check its expense list before you order.
